“O Allah! I seek refuge in You from the male and female evil jinn.”
(Sahih al-Bukhari, 142; Sahih Muslim, 375)

Adding “Bismillah” Before the Dua

Sa‘id ibn Mansur narrated that when the Prophet ﷺ entered the toilet, he would say:
“Bismillah. O Allah! I seek refuge in You from the male and female evil jinn.”
This addition of “Bismillah” is considered recommended by many scholars.
(Reported by Sa‘id ibn Mansur; see Fath al-Bari, 1/244)

Covering Oneself Before Relieving Oneself

Ali ibn Abi Talib (رضي الله عنه) reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“The screen between the jinn and the private parts of a person when he enters the toilet is to say: Bismillah.”
(Sunan al-Tirmidhi, 606; graded Hasan by Al-Albani)

The Etiquette of Entering with the Left Foot First

Aishah (رضي الله عنها) reported: The Prophet ﷺ used to like starting with his right side in all matters, except when entering the toilet, he would begin with his left foot.
