1. Du‘ā for the Sick Person
The Prophet ﷺ, when performing ruqyah (reciting supplication) for someone from his family, would pass his right hand over them and say:
Arabic:
اَذْهِبِ الْبَاسَ رَبَّ النَّاسِ، وَاشْفِ اَنْتَ الشَّافِيْ، لَا شِفَاءَ اِلَّا شِفَاؤُكَ، شِفَاۤءً لَّا يُغَادِرُ سَقَمًا
Translation:
“O Allah, Lord of mankind, remove the suffering, grant cure, for You are the One who cures. There is no cure except Your cure, a cure that leaves behind no illness.”
Transliteration:
Adh-hibil-ba’sa Rabban-nās, washfi anta ash-Shāfī, lā shifā’a illā shifā’uka, shifā’an lā yughadiru saqaman.

2. Du‘ā for Illness and Protection from the Evil Eye
Arabic:
بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ اُرْقِيْكَ، مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ يُؤْذِيْكَ، مِنْ شَرِّ كُلِّ نَفْسٍ اَوْ عَيْنٍ حَاسِدٍ، اَللّٰهُ يَشْفِيْكَ، بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ اُرْقِيْكَ
Translation:
“In the Name of Allah, I perform ruqyah for you, from everything that is harming you, from the evil of every soul and from the evil of the envious eye. May Allah cure you. In the Name of Allah, I perform ruqyah for you.”
Transliteration:
Bismillāhi urqīka, min kulli shay’in yu’dhīka, min sharri kulli nafsin aw ‘aynin ḥāsidin, Allāhu yashfīka, bismillāhi urqīka.
Hadith Background:
Abū Sa‘īd al-Khudrī (RA) narrated: Jibrīl (AS) came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was ill with fever. Jibrīl said: “O Muhammad, are you sick?” He ﷺ replied: “Yes.” So Jibrīl recited the above words.

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ تُرْبَةُ اَرْضِنَا بِرِيْقَةِ بَعْضِنَا يُشْفٰى (بِهٖ) سَقِيْمُنَا بِاِذْنِ رَبِّنَا
Translation:
In the Name of Allah. The soil of our land, mixed with the saliva of some of us, so that our sick person may be cured by the permission of our Lord.
Transliteration:
Bismillāh, turbatū ardhinā, birīqati ba‘dhinā, yushfā (bihi) saqīmunā, bi’idhni Rabbina.
Hadith Explanation:
ʿĀ’ishah (RA) said: Whenever someone had any illness, pain, or wound on their body, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would place his (index) finger on the ground, then raise it and recite this du‘ā. In another narration, it is mentioned that he would put a little of his own saliva on his finger, place it on the ground, and then apply it to the place of pain while reciting this supplication.

Say: He is Allah, the One.
Allah, the Eternal Refuge.
He neither begets nor is He begotten.
And there is none comparable to Him.

Qul huwallāhu aḥad.
Allāhus-ṣamad.
Lam yalid wa lam yūlad.
Wa lam yakun lahu kufuwan aḥad.

Translation:
Say: I seek refuge with the Lord of daybreak,
From the evil of what He created,
And from the evil of the darkness when it settles,
And from the evil of those who blow on knots,
And from the evil of the envier when he envies.
Transliteration:
Qul a‘ūdhu birabbil-falaq.
Min sharri mā khalaq.
Wa min sharri ghāsiqin idhā waqab.
Wa min sharri n-naffāthāti fil-‘uqad.
Wa min sharri ḥāsidin idhā ḥasad.
And Sūrah an-Nās:
﷽
قُلْ اَعُوْذُ بِرَبِّ النَّاسِۙ ﴿١﴾ مَلِكِ النَّاسِۙ ﴿٢﴾ اِلٰهِ النَّاسِۙ ﴿٣﴾ مِنْ شَرِّ الْوَسْوَاسِ ۙ الْخَـنَّاسِ ۙ﴿٤﴾ الَّذِىْ يُوَسْوِسُ فِىْ صُدُوْرِ النَّاسِۙ ﴿٥﴾ مِنَ الْجِنَّةِ وَالنَّاسِ ﴿٦﴾
Translation:
Say: I seek refuge with (Allah), the Lord of mankind,
The Sovereign of mankind,
The God of mankind,
From the evil of the retreating whisperer,
Who whispers in the hearts of mankind,
From among the jinn and mankind.
Transliteration:
Qul a‘ūdhu birabbin-nās.
Malikin-nās.
Ilāhin-nās.
Min sharri l-waswāsi l-khannās.
Alladhī yuwaswisu fī ṣudūrin-nās.
Minal-jinnati wan-nās.
ʿĀ’ishah (RA) said:
“When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ became ill, he would recite the Muʿawwidhāt Sūrahs (al-Ikhlās, al-Falaq, and an-Nās), then blow over his body and wipe his hands over himself. In another narration: when someone from his family was ill, he would recite these Sūrahs, then blow over them and wipe his hands over their body. During his final illness before his death, I would recite these Sūrahs and blow over him, then take his own hand and wipe it over his body.”
We have previously learned that reciting these Sūrahs before sleeping at night is also part of the regular adhkār.

5. Duʿā for Fever and Pain
بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الْكَبِيْرِ اَعُوْذُ بِاللّٰهِ الْعَظِيْمِ مِنْ شَرِّ كُلِّ عِرْقٍ نَعَّارٍ وَمِنْ شَرِّ حَرِّ النَّارِ
Translation:
In the Name of Allah, the Most Great. I seek refuge with Allah, the Most Mighty, from the evil of every throbbing vein and from the evil of the heat of the Fire.
Transliteration:
Bismillāhil-Kabīr, aʿūdhu billāhil-ʿAẓīmi min sharri kulli ʿirqin naʿʿārin wa min sharri ḥarri n-nār.
Hadith Note:
ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿAbbās (RA) said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to teach this duʿā for fever and all illnesses and pains. The ḥadīth is ḍaʿīf (weak).

Then he looked at me and said: ‘Are you suffering from stomach pain?’ I said: Yes. He said: ‘Then stand up and perform ṣalāh, for indeed there is healing within ṣalāh.’”
This ḥadīth has a weak chain (ḍaʿīf).

6. Duʿā for Poisonous Bites
For poisonous bites from snakes, scorpions, etc., one must quickly seek medicine and treatment. At the same time, duʿā should be recited. We have seen that a Companion treated a person bitten by a snake by reciting Sūrah al-Fātiḥah.
In another ḥadīth, ʿAlī (RA) said:
“One night the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was performing ṣalāh. During the ṣalāh, he placed his hand on the ground. Then a scorpion bit him. He caught the scorpion with his sandal and killed it. After finishing the ṣalāh, he said: ‘Cursed scorpion! It spares neither the one who prays nor the one who does not pray, neither a Prophet nor anyone else!’ Then he asked for water and salt. He mixed water and salt in a vessel, poured it over his bitten finger, wiped his hand, and recited Sūrah al-Falaq and Sūrah an-Nās while making duʿā. In another narration: he recited Sūrah al-Kāfirūn, Sūrah al-Falaq, and Sūrah an-Nās.” The ḥadīth is authentic (ṣaḥīḥ).
