Narrated Ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him):
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:
“Islam is built upon five (pillars):
- Testifying that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah;
- Establishing the prayer;
- Giving zakah (charity);
- Performing Hajj (pilgrimage to Makkah);
- Fasting during the month of Ramadan.”

Hadith 9 — Branches of Faith
Arabic:
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَامِرٍ الْعَقَدِيُّ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ بِلاَلٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ـ رضى الله عنه ـ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ :
“ الإِيمَانُ بِضْعٌ وَسِتُّونَ شُعْبَةً، وَالْحَيَاءُ شُعْبَةٌ مِنَ الإِيمَانِ ”
English Translation:
Narrated Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him):
The Prophet (ﷺ) said:
“Faith (iman) has over sixty branches, and modesty (hayā’) is one of the branches of faith.”

Hadith 10 — The True Muslim and Muhajir
Arabic:
حَدَّثَنَا آدَمُ بْنُ أَبِي إِيَاسٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي السَّفَرِ، وَإِسْمَاعِيلَ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو ـ رضى الله عنهما ـ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ :
“ الْمُسْلِمُ مَنْ سَلِمَ الْمُسْلِمُونَ مِنْ لِسَانِهِ وَيَدِهِ، وَالْمُهَاجِرُ مَنْ هَجَرَ مَا نَهَى اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ”
English Translation:
Narrated ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Amr (may Allah be pleased with them):
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:
“A (true) Muslim is the one from whose tongue and hand the Muslims are safe, and a (true) emigrant (Muhajir) is the one who abandons what Allah has forbidden.”

Hadith 12 — The Best Islam
Arabic:
حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ خَالِدٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ، عَنْ أَبِي الْخَيْرِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو ـ رضى الله عنهما ـ أَنَّ رَجُلاً، سَأَلَ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم أَىُّ الإِسْلاَمِ خَيْرٌ قَالَ :
“ تُطْعِمُ الطَّعَامَ، وَتَقْرَأُ السَّلاَمَ عَلَى مَنْ عَرَفْتَ وَمَنْ لَمْ تَعْرِفْ ”
English Translation:
Narrated ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Amr (may Allah be pleased with them):
A man asked the Prophet (ﷺ), “Which aspect of Islam is best?”
He replied:
“To feed others (the needy) and to greet those you know and those you do not know.”
